VISA

By the end of July, foreign applicants admitted to a PhD program will receive by mail a letter of admission, which can be submitted at consulates and embassies in order to obtain the visa.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Make sure that you are covered by health insurance. If you are a European citizen, conditions may vary depending on your country of origin. Please check your country's Embassy web site. The Politecnico requires that all registered students are covered by health insurance.

For information about health insurance in Italy you can write to:

internationalphd@polimi.it

TAX CODE

The “codice fiscale” is an alphanumeric code of 16 characters issued for free by the “Agenzia delle Entrate” (Revenue Agency) to identify Italian citizens and foreign residents.

You need to have your own “codice fiscale” to:

  • enroll at an Italian university
  • open a bank account
  • sign any type of contract (rental, phone line, …)
  • register at the National Healthcare Service (SSN)

Starting from 2014, international students can avoid requesting the “codice fiscale” personally at the local “Agenzia delle Entrate”. Thanks to a special agreement with the “Agenzia delle Entrate” to simplify the issue of tax codes, Politecnico di Milano can request the “codice fiscale” on behalf of its international students and deliver it to them after enrolment.

In September PhD secretary will send an email to each enrolled PhD student with all the details.

DOCUMENTS

If you have a foreign university degree, you need to bring to the offices of the Secretariat by the enrolment deadline:

  • Declaration of equivalence issued by the diplomatic mission in the country in whose national education system the institution awarding the certificate is included

    or

  • Diploma Supplement in English

When starting please go to the PhD secretariat of your PhD program to inform them you are starting and, if you have not studied at the Politecnico before, please also go to the PhD Secretariat in via Golgi 42.

SCHOLARSHIPS

To avoid the risk of losing your scholarship,  please make sure to check all deadlines and to confirm the acceptance of the scholarship within the deadline and to send in all documents for registration by the deadline.

The first payment of the scholarship (the basic amount of the first two months, around € 2000) will be paid on December 20 and will be reduced by € 185,58 (regional tax, insurance and administrative costs). All following payments will be paid monthly on the 5th of the month. From the second payment onwards, the scholarship increments, if applicable, will also be included (increments are subdivided in monthly installments). The second payment will also include any potential additional increment for the first two months, if applicable.
