GMA prize for the best PhD thesis in Mechanics of Materials

The Mechanics of Materials Group of the AIMETA (Italian Association for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics) has announced the 4th edition of the prize for the “Prize for the best PhD thesis in Mechanics of Materials". The prize will be conferred to a young scholar who obtained his/her PhD in 2018 by defending a thesis on topics related to the Mechanics of Materials.

The Award consists of a Diploma, and a Registration-fee waiver for the AIMETA 2019 Congress (Rome, 15-19 September 2019,, during which the award ceremony and the presentation of the scientific results obtained by the winner will take place.

The documentation, which must be sent by 19 January 2019 by email to the GMA coordination committee (,,, includes: 

  1. copy of the thesis in pdf format;
  2. summary of 2-3 pages written in English (to be included only if the Thesis is not written in English);
  3. CV of the candidate, in English;
  4. Presentation letter by the advisor (in Italian or in English).

The selection will be made by a commission of experts appointed by the GMA coordination committee. 

The prize will be awarded only if at least two candidates apply.

The coordination committee may also decide not to award the prize. In the event that the winner has already paid the registration fee before the award is announced, the fee will be reimbursed.
